New Honors

The International Songwriters Competition (ISC) has chosen Larry McCray’s song ‘Hangman‘ as the First Place winner in it’s 2025 competition. Written by Charlie Walmsley, Larry McCray and myself during demo sessions for Larry’s most recent album with Joe Bonamassa/Josh Smith, Heartbreak City. Charlie helped champion the song and it took on a life of its own. The sessions for the track began with Charlie writing, Larry tweaking and sessions at Reed Recording Studio in Bay City. From there, the sessions came to my studio, Harvest Canteen and Larry was looking at some extra lyrics to wrap up the song the way he heard it. That was where I came in. Larry loved it, recorded it, and Charlie re-wrote some of the song to reflect the ending I added to it. We did the final demo (which is amazing). When Larry recorded the award winning track in California with Joe and Josh, Joe decided that the song was too long and some lyrics were cut. Needless to say, I am blown away to share a songwriters credit with these greats and I am super proud for this award. It takes a lot of work to get these opportunities.
